OMAHA, Neb. - Nolan W.R. Mitchell died Friday, Aug. 22, 2025.
Nolan William Ralph Mitchell was born in Champaign on Nov. 9, 1934, to Leslie Ray and Marie Sitts Mitchell. Nolan's employment in Omaha, Neb., by the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Missouri Division, involved traveling throughout the Midwest. With his wife, Patricia, they were companions on trips to Russia, Antarctica, Hawaii, Denmark, the Panama Canal, Bermuda, Alaska and many cities in the United States. Nolan and Pat also spent 30 years attending College World Series baseball games and following sports of the local colleges, the University of Nebraska Lincoln, Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Omaha. Nolan also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and three different levels of Sudoku, as well as reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Joyce Mitchell Davy; and brothers-in-law, Earl Davy and Martin "Marty" Struck.
Nolan is survived by his wife, Patricia; sisters, Sharon Struck and Gloria (Larry) Buhrmester; brother, LeRae Jon Mitchell; nephews, Todd Buhrmester, Troy (Melissa) Buhrmester and Corey (Laura) Struck; nieces, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Dave) Lancaster and Mindy (Kevin) Kolar; and many great-nieces and -nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Woller Farm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to your local library or Yearsley Memorial Cemetery.
