My family has lived across the street from Mr. Sumption for over 40 years. He watched my children and my grand children grow up, all the while demonstrating what it means to be a good neighbor. When we emerged from winter each spring there were pleasant chats on the corner. He always kept up on the mowing and raking. We would pop over and put his grass clippings to use for pet bedding. I will always remember those everyday encounters, they are what make a neighborhood a good place to live. We all feel honored to have known him. His calm steady presence and warm smile will certainly be missed.

Dick was a by the book person and a man of tremendous integrity. I could depend on him for a straightforward, unfiltered response on any question. He was such an important part of my life at the Illini Union and now with his passing I feel a great emptiness in my heart.

I am so saddened to learn of Richard's passing. I worked with him at the Illini Union. He was a very kind man with a quiet sense of humor and a remarkable memory. I appreciated him and have thought of him often. Prayers to his family.

I worked with Dick for a number of years at the Illini Union and was pleased to meet with him again at a monthly lunch group of Union retirees after I moved back to Urbana. He had the best memory of anyone I've ever known. He will be missed.
