CHAMPAIGN - Steven J. Herold, 68, of Champaign passed away on July 10, 2024, in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
Steve was born Oct. 22, 1955, in Peoria, the son of Charles and Margaret (Ennis) Herold. He married Minta (Beachey) on March 10, 1990, in Arthur.
Steve was a proud member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors for 45 years, spending the last years of his career with TK Elevators working as Midwest Regional Trainer. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He loved to travel with his wife, spend time with his kids while always making sure to impart upon them wisdom and the most random pieces of trivia, and he never missed a grandkids' sporting event so long as he was in town. You could almost always find him tinkering in his garage or helping a neighbor or friend fix something, as Steve could repair anything from car engines to HVAC systems to computers. He was a brilliant man with an enormous heart.
Steve is survived by his wife of 34 years, Minta of Champaign; children, Andrea (Herold) Coultas and husband Eric of Fisher, Stephanie (Herold) Altobello and husband Rick of Colombia, S.C., Michael Stone of Urbana, Evan Stone and wife Rebecca of Savoy and Adrianne (Herold) Haskins and husband Dylan of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tyler Bialeschki and wife Frankie of Tolono, Ariel Brewer and husband Jake of Creston, Iowa, Adam Bialeschki of Colombia, S.C., Brianna Keeton and boyfriend Logan of Fisher, Ashlyn Altobello of Dallas, Dean Coultas of Fisher, Gillian Coultas of Indianapolis, Judah, Asher and Scarlett Stone of Savoy, and Onyxander and Anavera Stone of Urbana; great-grandchild, Baeden Moore of Tolono and a great-grandchild arriving in Nov.; siblings, Angela Molleck, Tim (Bill Ordaz) Herold, Christopher Herold and Christina (Glenn) Trueblood; sisters-in-law, Heidi McCabe, Christi Herold and Sandy Herold; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike Herold, Pat Herold and Denny Herold; brother-in-law, Mark Molleck; and nephew, Cody Trueblood.
Per Steve's wishes, a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 18, at Jupiter's at the Crossing in Champaign. The celebration will begin with a visitation at 3:30 followed by a service at 5:30 to honor Steve through the sharing of memories, stories, food, drinks and by celebrating his life together.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Steve's name to the Gary Sinise Foundation in support of our nation's service members, veterans, first responders and their families. It is with great sadness that I learned of Steve´s passing. I cannot begin to estimate the times that he answered his phone, or returned my call to help me through an elevator issue. He was always a joy to speak with, and an invaluable source of information. I´m sure that his family at home, and at work will miss him dearly. He was one of a kind. The exceptionally good kind.
Prayers for Gods peace and healing for all of his family.
