Terry Hendrix Obituary
Terry Allen Hendrix
Monticello - Terry Allen Hendrix, 79, of Monticello passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday (Nov. 24, 2025) at Reflections Memory Care, Savoy.
Terry Hendrix was born Aug. 29, 1946, in Decatur, the son of B.L. and Ruby ( Robinson) Hendrix. He married Connie Marquiss on June 11, 1967, in Monticello.
Terry is survived by his daughters, Terra (Peggy Burton) Hendrix of St. Augustine, Fla., and Abby (Jamie) Puckett of O'Fallon, Mo.; and grandchildren, Greysen Puckett of Overland Park, Kan., Aly Puckett of Tulsa, Okla., Garrett Puckett of O'Fallon and Tate (Tiyana) Hendrix of Denver.
Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; brother, Dennis Hendrix; and parents, B.L. and Ruby Hendrix.
Terry and Connie first met in kindergarten at Washington School in Monticello. This was the beginning of their love story. They went to Illinois State University and were married during their college years. After graduation, they joined the Peace Corps, which took them to Oruro, Bolivia, as model farmers for a year. Upon returning from the Peace Corps, Terry served in the U.S. Navy, during which time both daughters were born. Terry and Connie returned to Monticello to begin their lifelong farming career.
In their early years, they enjoyed square-dancing and hosting trips with the Young Farmers of Illinois. Terry served the community in several capacities throughout his life, including as Farm Bureau president for Piatt County, Goose Creek township board member and hosting three foreign-exchange students. Perhaps his most beloved position in the community was being a member of the "Coffee Board" that met daily at 5 a.m. and rotated from Hardee's to McDonald's through the years. All important decisions were discussed there.
Nothing brought Terry more pride than spending time with his daughters and their families. Family and farming meant the world to Terry. His love for ice cream and sugary snacks of all kinds was quite evident, especially while posing for the camera with a thumbs up. His humor will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know his generous yet sometimes ornery side.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Calvary Baptist Church, 738 W. Bridge St., Monticello. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. with family friend the Rev. Jamie Mackey officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Monticello Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Student Ministry (to be used for mission trips and student camps). Condolences may be sent to the family at mackey-wrightfuneralhome.com.
