CHAMPAIGN - Touy Sengsouvanh, 55, of Champaign passed away on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at her daughter's home in Savoy, surrounded by family and friends.
Services will include visitation from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. Friday and a Buddhist funeral ceremony from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Both will be held at Morgan Memorial Home in Savoy with monks from the Lao Buddhist Temple of Elgin officiating.
Touy was born on Feb. 12, 1954, in Paksé, Laos. She immigrated to the U.S. on Aug. 26, 1980; her family was sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. She moved to Champaign in 1984 where she lived until she passed.
She enjoyed gardening, cultivating exotic orchids and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved to cook Lao, Viet, Thai and American cuisine, and she shared her culinary talents with all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Touy is survived by her mother, Say Sylavong of Champaign; her daughters, Cathy (Jason) McArthur of Savoy and Somphon Sengsouvanh of Joliet; her grandson, Samuel McArthur and granddaughter, Samara McArthur; her fiance, Charles Sandland of Galloway, N.J.; her brothers, Bounthanh (Chanh) Syravong of Albany, Ore., Bounthane (Hoa) Syravong of Paksé, Laos, and Bounthanh (Thongbay) Sylavong of Champaign; her sisters, Chansy (Lee) Savathphoune of Champaign and Somchit Srisuk of Mukdahan, Thailand; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ong Baep.
