SAVOY - Vicki Lynn Tempel, 75, of Champaign passed away at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (June 21, 2025) at Reflections Memory Care, Savoy.
Vicki was born on Jan. 16, 1950, at Burnham Hospital in Champaign. She was the middle of three daughters born to Roy and Carolynn Michael, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Dana) Tempel of Tolono; daughter, Kristin (Clint) Garretson of Sidney; and sisters, Linda Michael of Champaign and Peggy (Jerry) Shonkwiler of Noblesville, Ind. She was a proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Lexi, Brooke, Paige (Garretson) and Olivia and Justin (Tempel), who affectionately called her "Grammy." Also surviving are her nephew, Jason (Alaina) Shonkwiler; niece, Jennifer (Shane) English; and five great-nieces and -nephews, all of Noblesville, who lovingly referred to her as "AV."
Vicki was a member of the first graduating class of Centennial High School in 1967 and later graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a kind and selfless soul who always put others before herself. Her passion for nursing and caring for others was her life's mission. Early in her career, she served as a nurse on the island of Guam and Mercy Hospital. She later worked as a surgical nurse on the open-heart team at Carle and served as a surgical nurse liaison, offering comfort and compassion to countless families before her retirement.
Vicki's love for her family was boundless. She never missed an event involving her children or grandchildren. When not attending family gatherings or sporting events, she could often be found cheering on her beloved Illini. It wasn't uncommon to receive a spirited "I-L-L!" text or phone call after a big win.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 30, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy; morganmemorialhome.com. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the funeral home with Pastor Hank Sanford officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Champaign.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

We had a few milestones together. First class to go all the way through at Bottenfield. First graduating class in 1968 at Centennial. My first babysitting job with Vicki back in 5th grade.
Glad to have reconnected at our 50 year class reunion.
May her memory will be a blessing to all of us who knew her.

My condolences to Vicki's family. I remember going to birthday parties at her house when we were in elementary school. It's great to learn what a rich life she had both professionally and personally.

So sorry for your loss. I didn´t know her well, but was in the first graduating class of 1968 with her. She was always so kind.
