Brigitte Steinkoenig passed away June 1, 2021 at her home in Painesville Twp. She was born on December 10, 1929 in Dresden, Germany where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. There, she also received her schooling, ending with the Baccalaureate Degree. As a very young adult she fled Dresden, escaping the Russian occupied zone and later regime of the East German police State, into West Berlin; completing further university studies. She came to the United States in 1957 with an International Group of Professional Youth and Social Workers, sponsored by the U.S. State Department through the Fulbright Scholarship Program. Brigitte Keller married the late Roland Steinkoenig at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cleveland. As the Social Service Supervisor at the Lake County Department of Human Services, she specialized in Elder Abuse. She was an active volunteer in numerous organizations and served the community on various Boards of Directors. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Painesville since 1958. She is survived by her daughters, Kristine Steinkoenig, Ingrid Steinkoenig, and Claudia Carlough (the late Dr. Les Carlough) of Portland, Oregon and grandchildren Alexander Steinkoenig, Kestrel Carlough and Savannah Carlough, and sister Ingrid Kuehn of Germany. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on July 24, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. The family suggests that any remembrance of Brigitte be memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church or the Lake Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd. Unit E, Mentor, Ohio 44060. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.
