Charles Colyer Obituary

Charles C. Colyer, 91, of Mentor and Bradenton, Fla., passed away Dec. 12, 2012, at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton.
Chuck was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Altoona, Pa., to Charles C. Colyer and Helen R. Bingman Colyer.
Mr. Colyer retired from Amoco Oil and later from Lubrizol Corporation. He was highly accomplished in his professional and personal life, serving as International President of SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) 1983 and GOP Lake County, IN Chairman, 1970s.
Chuck was a graduate of Altoona High School in 1939 and Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon), 1947 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. from 1942 to 1945.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Virginia J. Colyer whom he married on Nov. 16, 1974. He is also survived by one son, Robert (Lynne) Colyer of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Charlene (David) Doerr of Terre Haute, Ind. and Diann (Michael) Oberlin of Noblesville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) Colyer, Eric Doerr and Kelsey Oberlin; and two great-grandchildren, Kai and Chase Colyer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia "Ginny" Colyer; son, Charles C. Colyer III; and two grandsons, Kyle Doerr and Brent Colyer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Dec. 29, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 37728 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, where he was a member.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Arrangements handled by The Good Earth Crematory in Bradenton, Fla.

To: Colyer family My name is Bob Cain and I worked with Chuck at Lubrizol about 29 years ago. He was one of the best! It was an honor to know him,he was extremely supportive and I considered him a true friend and mentor. I have not seen Chuck in many years but he will always have a special place in my heart and spirt. God bless
