Delbert G. "Jerry" Stenger

1928 - 2015

Delbert G. "Jerry" Stenger, age 87, passed away Sept. 15, 2015, at Emeritus of Newell Creek in Mentor. Jerry was born June 28, 1928, in Cleveland and lived in Mentor for 63 years.
Jerry enjoyed his family of 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, household repairs, fishing in Canada and vacations in Florida. He loved the Big Band sounds and ballads of the 40's and 50's.
Jerry was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and little league baseball. He volunteered at St. Mary Church in Mentor, Meals on Wheels and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Jerry was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was employed as a TV technician before joining IBM Corporation in 1952. He worked for IBM for 30 years until his retirement in 1982.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Vi for 63 years; dear father of Fr. James, Daniel (Kathy), Thomas (Mary), Susan (Gene) Barber, Robert (Brenda); grandfather of Doug Barber (fiancee Danielle), Jim Barber (fiancee Stefanie), Lisa (Andrew) Holland, Suzanne, Kelly and Jimmy Stenger, Jaclyn (Bill) Dunphy, Katelyn Stenger, Christine (Brandon) Tercek, Brian (Caiti) Stenger, Carey (Jeff) Buffington, Lauren (Kevin) Stanley and Kelly Stenger; great grandfather of 6; brother of R. L. "Larry" (Margie) Stenger; and uncle of many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Christ Child Society and St. Mary Helping Hands.
