Dolores Rae Breedlove

FLATWOODS, Ky. — Dolores R. (Sheaffer) Breedlove, 93, loving wife and mother, died Sunday, April 18, at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods, Ky.She was born April 6, 1929, in Bellaire, Ohio to Daniel M. and Ella M. (McDade) Sheaffer.Formerly a resident of Oakland, MD and Pittsburgh, Pa., she had lived in Chardon, Ohio beginning in 1957.Dolores married Larry A. Breedlove on March 2, 1951 in Pittsburgh.She attended the University of Pittsburgh and Kent State University and received her master’s in education in administration in 1975.She worked for the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department from 1960-1967 and Ledgemont Local Schools from 1969-1988, where she was a fifth/sixth grade teacher, gifted education teacher, elementary principal and superintendent. She was the first female Superintendent of Schools in Geauga County. She retired on Aug. 1, 1988.Dolores was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Delta Kappa Gamma International and the State Teacher’s Retirement System. She was a life member of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Ohio Retired Teachers Association and Geauga County Retired Teachers. She was a member of the Geauga County Senior Center Board of Trustees and a past member of the Geauga County Board of Education.She volunteered with several area social agencies.She is survived by her sons, Brent Breedlove and Heidi, Mouth of Wilson, Va., Brian Breedlove, Oakland, MD and Blake Breedlove and Sara, Palm Coast, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel M. and Ella M. Sheaffer; husband, Larry Breedlove; daughter, Brook Sparks.; brothers, Daniel M. Sheaffer and Harry H. Sheaffer and daughter-in-law, Gloria Breedlove.A memorial service will be held later in the year.Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Ashland, Ky.
