Michael Corbut

Michael Corbut, 74, of Geneva Township, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 at UH Geneva Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1947 in Euclid, Ohio to the late Gabriel and Phoebe Corbut. Michael retired from the Lake County Sheriff’s office as a Sergeant in July of 2012 after 22 years of service to the department. He was one of the department’s longest tenured and most respected officers. He also worked as a road deputy for several years with Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to that, Michael joined the United States Army serving in Vietnam and earning multiple medals and commendations including a National Defense Medal, a Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge, Civil Actions Honor medal, Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal. He attended Lakeland Community College and Cleveland State University’s law enforcement academy.Michael had a love for animals, especially those who needed rescued. He enjoyed spending time with family. Michael enjoyed working on automobiles and classic cars. He also loved to go target shooting when able. He had a wonderful gift of making people laugh. The world was a better place because of him.Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Melanie Corbut (nee Kuklica); sons, Michael (Nina) Corbut and Adam (fiancée, Christine Hahn) Corbut; grandchildren, Alyssa Corbut, Macartney Corbut, Mary Sferra and Kolton Corbut; sister, Patricia (Robert) Kiels; nephews, Frank (Kim) Occiphinti, Robert (Samantha) Payne III and John (Kate) Berry; nieces, Chera (Greg) Ihnat, Jenna (Tony) Wise, Kim Newman, Nikki (Josh) Ciszczon, Brie Santoro, Kristen (Beth) Payne, Brittany (Charlie) Payne and Karla Salazar and dogs, Buster and Nick. Preceding Michael in death is his sister, Beth Sorwick.The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave. Mentor, OH 44060. A memorial service to conclude the visitation will be held 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. In memory of Michael contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, P.O.
