Raymond R. Jorz

1925 - 2022

Funeral Mass for Raymond R. Jorz, 97, of Mentor, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianey Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Ray passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at Governor’s Pointe Assisted Living in Mentor. He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Cleveland. Ray was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Mentor, a retired Colonel of the U.S. Marine Corps, and received his Doctorate from Western Reserve University. A member of Gunny’s Hall Marine Corp League in Mentor, Ray was one of the Chosin Few. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he earned his Purple Heart. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and working daily crossword puzzles. In fact, he had completed one the day he died. After his military retirement, Dr. Jorz worked in education for many years as a teacher and then concluded his career as principal at Kirtland High School. He was the loving father of Raymond A. (Karen) Jorz, Mara S. (Richard) Grampp, Maureen D. (Richard) Roesch, Melanie A. Jorz, John R. (Lucy) Jorz, and Marianne Turner (Michael Sean); cherished grandfather of 19; great-grandfather of 18; and uncle of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor D. (nee Dietz) Jorz; son, James J. Jorz; parents, Stanislaw and Stella (nee Archacki) Jorz; and siblings, Walter (Stella, dec.) Jorz, Leonard (Genevieve, dec.) Jorz, John (Hildegarde, dec.) Jorz, Sr. Felixa (Josephine Jorz) a Franciscan Sister, and Joseph Jorz. Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
