Charles Aguero Obituary

Charles P. Aguero, Sr. (U.S. Army, Ret.), 86, departed this life to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, March 20, 2008. Born May 4, 1921, and raised in Key West, Fla., to Charles W. and Lilla (Peacon) Aguero. Graduated KW High School, 1939, worked for the Navy, enlisting in the U.S. Army, 1942, becoming a Lt.Colonel during his 21 year military career, serving as the youngest Artillery Battalion Commander in the European Theater of World War II, the Korean War, Germany and Japan. In 1964, Colonel Aguero retired from the Army, returned to Key West, and began his public service career with the City of Key West. He became Monroe County's first director of the Municipal Service District, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing , friends, making his excellent conch chowder, tempura shrimp, and Key lime pie, and growing roses. In 1999, he and wife, Charlotte, relocated to John Knox Village in Orange City. Charles was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his much-beloved wife of 40 years, Charlotte Grable (Summers) Aguero; daughter, Julia E. Dawson; son, John K. Aguero and wife, Kimberly; son, Charles P. Aguero, Jr.; stepsons, Gus G. Sermos and David E. Sermos; stepdaughter, Grace Melinda Serridge; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. His family and friends will miss him. We are thankful for the care given by Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. Memorial service to celebrate the life of Charles P. Aguero, Sr. will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Orange City United Methodist Church.
