Charles C. Beckwith Jr.

1928 - 2016

Charles C. Beckwith Jr. passed away at home on June 10, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born in 1928 in New York, he served in the US Army Air Corps as a Drill Sergeant from 1946 through 1947 and the National Guard from 1948 to
1950. His business experience included: Household Finance in 1949 to 1951. From 1951 through 1970, he was principal of Idlewild Airport Florist at JFK International Airport in New York. He was co-founder and Executive Vice-President and General Manager of International Shoppes, Inc. in New York. He was responsible for starting the duty and tax-free stores in the United States headquartered in JFK International Airport. He held personal interest in the property known as Beckwith Pointe in New Rochelle NY. In 1963 he relocated to Florida. From 1964 he was President and Chairman of the Board of Ocean World, Inc., and oceanarium, open to the public in Ft. Lauderdale FL. Both founder and General Manager of the company, Mr. Beckwith had also been involved in catching, breeding, raising, training of marine mammals. He also had participated in ocean field studies in the growth, habits and commercial harvesting of larger crustaceans and fishes. In September 1984, Mr. Beckwith sold Ocean World and retired with his wife Lois to St. John, USVI. In the spring of 2000, they moved to Palm Coast FL. He is survived by his wife Lois, four daughters, Doris, Dale, Amy and Alison, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Beckwith will be honored by his family with a private military ceremony.
