I only learned today of Mr Creech´s passing. I wish I had known when it occurred so I could have come to pay my respects. He was the best and most influential teacher I ever had. (PAD in 1971) I was friends with Shadie so I had the pleasure of seeing him in Dad mode at his house as well as teacher in the classroom. He was great at both. Whenever the subject of teachers who had a great impact on our lives comes up, I tell about the amazing Ed Creech. I´ve never forgotten him and I never will. My sympathy, very belated, to his family. He was truly a great man!

We took Dad to the grand opening of Growing Up Wildcat exhibit at the WP History Museum. He was featured as one of the "favorite WP teachers" in a photo! Many students recognized him.

I always felt cheated that Mr. Creech wasn't one of my teachers. All of my friends who did have him for a teacher didn't just learn and LIKe HIM ... THEY LOVED HIM RIGHT UP TO HIS LAST DAYS. One, in particular, visisted him right up until her own death not very long before he passed away. She loved him dearly and sent us "updates" on her visits to see him. How wonderful it would be to be remembered as BEAUTIFULLY, appreciatively and fondly as he will be. May you find comfort and peace in thememories of so many who loved him.

I am so sorry to learn of Brother Creech's death! He was a fantastic teacher and a great person. My class ('62) was the last segregated one. He told us that we had to obey the law and that desegregation was coming whether or not we agreed with it. Having been raised in the military, I was used to being with all races and I was appalled to realize that I was in a segregated school. I also remember that he painted his house pink which I thought was great! He came to one of our reunions and we were all so pleased to see him.

Reflecting back on the three years I spent at Winter Park High, Mr. Creech immediately comes to mind as the most memorable instructor and most positive influence I encountered there -- and I still can recall his colorful, anecdotal way of teaching American history. (In fact, a couple years ago, I tried to find out if anyone could help me get in touch with him, and now am especially sorry I didn't pursue that effort further.) I would say that Mr. Creech's classes helped make my time in high school -- which wasn't always the easiest or most pleasant period of my youth -- a lot brighter, more enjoyable and more fun. He will, I'm sure, be missed by many people whose lives he touched and influenced.

Mr Creech was an amazing man. He could rub two cents together and squeeze out a dollar or two. Ed was a handsome devil, so say all the ladies and he was blessed to have had some great ones. Ed had the most rougish smile. Ed was a beloved and renown high school teacher of politics and history, a serviceman and hero, a cracker cowboy, a riverboat man down the historic St James, single parent raising 3 kids (2 of them girls), a store owner, moved a give-away house to create a home from almost nothing and was seen on TV doing it. Ed was an amazing man to say the least.

He laughingly called himself around me, "E-D" as he slyly jibbed my "JT" moniker. Ed was a survivor. He was almost run out of town in his youth on a rail by the most powerful and wealthy family of his town for no reason at all but simply being a loving husband and father. He was persecuted to the point he had virtually everything taken away, but Ed survived and turned it all around and became the famous teacher everyone remembers. Not many know this story.

Ed could tell amazing stories and had the most amazing experiences to tell. Yes, Ed was an amazing man and will surely be missed. He was like the Horatio Alger stories himself or the globe trotting 7 League Boots of Richard Halliburton. May we all take time to soberly contemplate the footprint we are leaving behind and to consider how we will be remembered and take a moment to reflect and discover how to be "amazing" too ourselves for those all around us like was Ed who we sorely miss.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Chreech's
family. He was a friend of my Dad. The kids in the neighborhood loved his store.
He was also one of the best teachers I have ever had. He was a gift to your family, many friends and hundreds of
young minds that he influenced with
his special way of teaching. He was gentle and kind. He was Mr. Chreech. He will be missed. Rest in Peace.

Dad was one of those bigger than life people! He marched to his own drum beat. He loved people, was compassionate and always tried to help however he could. His Ed Creech style of teaching was entertaining, making you remember his stories and want to come to class.
His St.Johns River ranching life and Lake Mitnik life were yet different experiences with new friends and good times. He lived a very full life filled with many interesting adventures. He loved working with his tractor and also giving hayrides to friends, family and neighbors. They all loved him too! It's nice to know when people hear his name they smile.

In 1968, Mr. Creech was not only my mentor, but is responsible for my life long passion of all things politics, business, economics. He taught me I could do all things...so I did. Majored in Education, minors in economics, finance,,,I also published magazines, Communications director for 2 Governors, and entrepenear of many businesses, and returned to the classroom the past 16 years. I have always used his story telling as my model of teaching. 48 years of work, with Mr. Creech as my inspiration. Forever grateful.

To Shadie and Family,

My heart goes out to you today in deepest sympathy.

Your Dad was a most inspiring man and teacher to me at WPHS in 59-60 (American History and PAD). A bonus for me was the opportunity to work for him after school in his toy store on Corrine Drive. As a teacher and educator I remember him as a role model of the Navy Motto "Not for Self, but for Country".

Mr. Creech, from one Navy Vet to another,
I wish you "Fair Winds and Following Seas".

My thoughts and prayers to Hal and the family. Mr. Creech was one of the most enjoyable and memorable teachers at WPHS, making learning fun for all. He was my economics teacher, igniting an interest for a lifetime of investing. Doug Reed '73.

I attended WPHS in the mid 60's and Mr. Creech was my favorite teacher. Had him for several classes, PAD, US History and I believe Economics. I day-dreamed through a number of other classes, but Mr. Creech always kept your attention with his lectures, had a good sense of humor, and was always very calm and cordial. One day I witnessed him break up a fight in the cafeteria by getting an out of control student in a well executed full-nelson take-down. After that day I had even more respect for him. I'm sure he is still telling stories on his new journey. My condolences to his family.

As his son I know a lot of his stories like "Castro Fishes With a Zebco" and "Spaghetti", but would love to hear new ones to remember him by.

Mr. Creech definitely holds a special place in the hearts of members of the Winter Park High School class of '59. Of course all the girls were in love with him, so I'm not sure how much concentrating we did on history! It was a thrill to see him at our class reunion eight years ago and he will always be in our memories as one of our special teachers! So sorry for your loss.

To the family of this man, I offer my condolences. You are so blessed to know this man. I had him only as a high schooler who was "getting American history over with" in summer school. Then I wished I had been able to take his class for the whole year. What a gift to students. I am so lucky to have experienced a talent like him.

Goodbye Mr Creech ---thank you ---

Bill Ronay

February 15, 2017

Mr. Creech's "Problems in American Democracy" (PAD) class was my introduction to 'serious' Politics. We brought the newspaper to class and talked about the stories of the day. Each of us was treated in an adult manner...and Mr. Creech taught us the realities of a true Democracy...and the Celebration of Freedom to which no other global nation can claim.

Ed was passionate about his interests and we all chatted about his success...and occasional failures. At the 45th Reunion of the Class of '61, several of us sat around chatting how "Creech" was involved in EVERYTHING at WPHS...and he corrected us by saying that "...only Rip Wilson could make that claim!"

We will all miss Mr. Creech. His unique teaching and influential talents remain indelible on the thousands of students he mentored along the trail he blazed...

RIP, Ed...
