EDWIN HICKOX

In loving memory of Edwin Hickox, who passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 26, 2011 surrounded by his family, at Florida Hospital in DeLand. He was born May 12, 1931 in Hoboken, Georgia. He moved to DeLand as a small child and was educated in DeLand. He was a Korean War Veteran and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Metal and the Bronze Star. He met and married Barbara Watson on Nov. 24, 1956 and moved back to DeLand. He retired from Sherwood Medical Industries in 1993 after 35 1/2 years of service. He served many years as the Little League coach for Sherwood. He was a member of the Moose, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Bulldog Boosters, DeLand Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball, Post 6, Stetson University Baseball and enjoyed traveling around to Major League Baseball games. His last trip with all the family was the All-Star game in Phoenix in July of this year. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara in Dec. 2010 and they were married for 54 years. He was a loving husband, father, Granddaddy, father-in-law, brother and uncle. He will be missed by all and the memories are forever. He is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Ritter and husband Rodney of Orange City; two sons, Edwin and his wife Lisa of Port Orange and Thomas and his wife Kelly of DeLand. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Steven Ritter of Tampa, Valerie Ritter of Daytona Beach, Renee Ritter of Orange City, Mackenzie and Ashton Hickox of Port Orange and Lauren and Parker Hickox of DeLand. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sadie; two brothers, James and Raleigh. He is survived by three sisters, Ruby Cooper of Lake Helen, Louise Rosser and her husband Ralph of Lake County, Frances Coffey of Haynesville, North Carolina; and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 1-3pm at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. The funeral service will be Monday, October 31, 2011 at 2pm the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand with Chaplain David Meyer officiating.
