Dear Gladys and family of Dr. Pappalardi,

I just wanted to express my sorrow at the passing of Felix. Many years ago my wife Jennifer and I visited with him about once or twice a year while my parents lived on Fulton. We all shared a passion for birds. On the several occasions when we would go birding together he would amaze us by identifying birds hidden in trees or brush by their call alone. After my mother passed away and my dad moved elsewhere in Palm Coast and my wife and I had kids, we stopped visiting Florida as often, but still looked forward each year to receiving his hand-written Christmas cards. I remember one year we had written to him that we were planning to move to Germany for a time and were learning German. He replied that he was learning Italian and likened himself to one of cocoons that he cared for. I remember he wrote that, even at this late stage in his life, he felt like the butterfly in the chrysalis waiting to emerge and experience that resurrection that happens each spring. This phrase came back to my mind when I heard of his passing.
