Harold Lee Swarthout

Harold Lee Swarthout, a resident of Spruce Creek Fly-in since 1992, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Harold earned his pilot's license in 1974 and enjoyed flying his Mooney airplane to many distant destinations. He fueled his passion for flying by building a Velocity single engine aircraft in his hangar. After successful flights he retired the Velocity and purchased his second Mooney. In addition to flying, Harold also enjoyed traveling, boating, skiing, reading, tennis and bridge. Together with his wife, Evelyn, they traveled extensively and were very active in the Spruce Creek community with social and fundraising events. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his children, Edward Lee of Austin, TX; his daughter, Diane Sue (Steve) Galliers of Westerville, OH; his son, David John (Janet) of Columbus, OH; his brother, Larry Dean (Donna) of Florida; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in 10 am Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio under the direction the of SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger RD. (614) 224-6105. A memorial service will be held in Florida at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations to a charity of one's choice.
