Peggy and the Hanger Family,
May God grant you his peace during this time. I want all to know that it was a pleasure and a joy of knowing Jim and a great honor of working with Corporal Hanger. I worked with Jim his last two years until his retirement at the Courthouse Annex. Anytime I called for backup and Jim would show up, I knew everything would be ok because I knew that the best had my back and I will be always eternally grateful.
R.I.P. my brother until we meet again.

Mrs. Hanger and Family,

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Jim when I started with the Volusia County Sheriff's Department back in 1987. He was always friendly, easy going, had a smile and a twinkle in his eye everywhere he went. It did not take too long to figure out that "twinkle in his eye" usually meant he was up to something and someone was about to become a prank victim.

He almost always had a story to tell that would leave us all in stitches from laughing as hard as we did. I do not recall ever having seen him get mad or lose his temper BUT, he certainly knew how to take care of business when it was time to do so.

He was a great person to chat with who carried a lot of wisdom from his years of experience. I am a better person for having known Jim. He will be seriously missed.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert Dea

My dad taught me some very important life lessons that I cherish. He also taught me how to drive defensively - Mario Andretti style! He was so blessed to have Peggy care for him, and to be surrounded by family up to the end. We'll all miss you and we love you Dad!

I knew Jim when I was a NSB PO and he usually worked this area. I always knew him to have a happy smile and a friendly hello.

Many times while on a call it was not unusual for Jim to arrive for backup if he was in the area.

Jim was honest, dedicated to his chosen profession and a professional in ever sense of the word.

I think I called him big Jim.

So big Jim - May you rest in peace in God's loving arms - God Bless You

My sincerest condolences to Jim's Family and loved one for the loss of this fine man.. God Bless Each of you..

"Uncle Jimmy" was always a delight on my visits to Florida. He took us on a ride along during Daytona's Bike Week and showed me this "new" 911 system that was being used in Florida back in the early 1980's. I was not an officer yet but he treated me as well as if I was one. After 20+ years as an officer in Texas I still try to treat newcomers to law enforcement as Jimmie treated me. Lunch with Jimmie and his brother Buck always brightened my day. I have not gotten to Florida for many years now but will always think of Jimmie when I think of Florida.
