JAMIE COTTON Obituary

Jamie Ruth Hathcock Cotton, 52, of Daytona Beach was surrounded by family and friends when united with God after a brave battle on Saturday, March 20, 2010. A 6:00pm gathering and a 7:30pm memorial service will be held in her honor on April 9, 2010 at the Baggett and Summers Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Homes, with Pastor Dan Proctor officiating. Jamie was born in Manchester, Tennessee and grew up in Miami, Florida. She married her high school sweetheart in 1979 who would be her soul mate and partner in life for over 30 years. Jamie dedicated her talents to the field of Law. She worked for the Honorable William A. Parsons for 17 years while he was in practice and later for Rotstein & Shiffman. Jamie was a beautiful soul who loved life and lived for the happiness of her family. Jamie was the very essence of compassion. She never put herself before others. She would often go out of her way to reach those who were in need and never expected anything in return. With a smile that would light up a room, Jamie exuded so much love to everyone around her. Her first impression was always a lasting one. As an avid animal lover, Jamie enjoyed spending time at the beach, reading, and embracing family activities. She will best be remembered for upbeat, positive, unselfish nature and generous open heart to all. She was a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sister, a friend, an inspirational role model, and most importantly a wonderful person. Her parents-in-law and father, Joseph B. Hathcock preceded her in passing and she leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband, John Cotton; loving daughter, Lindsey Cotton; eldest son, Specialist Michael Cotton US Army and wife, Nichole Cotton; her baby boy, Tyler Cotton; her mother and step-father, Jo and Sidney Syna; 2 grandchildren, Jayden and Jordyn Cotton; her brother, Joe Hathcock; her sister and best friend, Tammy Layman and husband, Jay Layman; 2 nephews, PJ and Ricky Fernandez; brother and sister in law, Bobby and Rosemary Cotton; special family friends, Kim Hathcock and Brittany Eister; and many close and loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the Jamie Cotton for the Cure account. This money will help fund Lindsey and Brittany in the 2010 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day walk. Last year, they walked in honor of Jamie and her battle. This year, they walk in her memory, to keep the fight alive and spread awareness. Please contact Brittany at (386)295-0265 for information regarding how to donate. Jamie Ruth Hathcock Cotton, Left me, and others blessed with treasured memories of childhood friendships, and most recently I was blessed to see her shine, as a daughter, sister, wife, friend, and the most beautiful sight was seeing her glow as a mother when she was with, or talked about her children, and grandchildren. She beamed over with love... Forever blessed, and forever in our hearts... Thank you Jamie

I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Jamie. I worked with her and her mom at Fowler, White in Miami many years ago, and will never forget her smile. May you find peace in heaven Jamie.

Jamie, you were the most wonderful person that I ever had the pleasure to work with for so many years and you will be missed in my heart even though we did not get together much after I moved from Florida to North Carolina. I was sorry to hear of your battle with cancer, but now you will be at peace and no more suffering. You will always remembered in my heart now and forever. Love you!

Jamie, you held the heart of everyone whose life you ever touched. Each heart was a cherished gift that you held with unconditional love, never asking anything in return. Without you, our hearts are broken and feel like they may never mend. The piece of our heart that's missing is the part you took to heaven with you, but I know it will soon be filled with the part of you, you gave to us, where it will live forever. I love you, Jamie!

my heart goes out to the Cotton Family. Although I never met Jamie, I know I would have liked her very much. Tyler is one of my son's best friends and by his demeanor I know she was a devoted mother. He has forever touched my heart and for that, so has Jamie.

Lindsey, Michael, and Tyler,

Your mother was a stunningly beautiful person and she was like a 2nd mom to my brother, Kyle. I always remember her being outside doing yard work as I would drive to work:) She was a great person, mother, and wife. I love all of you guys and hold you all dear to my heart! Her beauty lives on......

You were one of my best friends. You were the sister I never had. Your family was mine and mostly you were always there for me when I needed you. I will never forget ALL the wonderful times we spent together, all the laughs we had and all the time we cried together. When you married Jason and I. You were my rock when I was weak and I thank you. You were one of the most beautiful people I know, both inside and out. Even in your final hours, I had never seen someone so beautiful. I love you always and forever and I am going to miss you more than you will ever imagine. You will remain now and forever in my heart. I LOVE YOU!
