I am a former student of Mrs. Monte and was saddened to hear of her passing. Please accept my sincerest condolences.
Please know that without Ms. Monte's kind and patient method of teaching mathematics, I may never have passed college algebra, overcome my math anxiety, or become a teacher. My high school math background was shaky at best. I was not a serious high school student in any subject - especially math. In order to earn my Associate in Arts degree from Daytona Beach Community College (now DSC), I had to pass college algebra. Mrs. Monte agreed to tutor me in her home. She knew me because her son and I had attended Mainland Senior High at about the same time.
Mrs. Monte was the first math teacher I ever had who was able to explain not only how a math problem was solved but more importantly WHY!!
She was an excellent teaching role model for me. I did go on to become a teacher (and later a guidance counselor) in Volusia County Schools and retired after 31 years.
Once again, please accept my deepest sympathies. I will always remember her because she truly wanted to help me learn!

I was so sorry to hear of Julie's death. She was a great friend and colleague. I remember the great times we had together with her and Bob, especially the trip we took to Hawaii.

Condolences from Daytona Beach to all family, friends & students of Mrs. Monte. Her Obituary appeared in the local paper this morning, and I remember her from that time even though I don't think I was enrolled in any of her classes. That the memory is that of a good teacher, someone respected and loved makes this message important to relay to all of you. Much love from all who may have migrated away and not know of her passing.

Our mourning of this dearest of mothers has been happening for many years. Now I can say goodbye and enjoy your peace and freedom little mommy. The life she lived was full of Grace and always the consummate teacher, she taught us lessons until the very end. I am proud of the women and mother I became and it is due to her unfaltering love, compassion and positive living example that she embodied all these many years. My heart is full of blessings and my soul rejoices for Heaven's new found angel.
Love always and forever,
Joan Monte

How do you say goodbye? I said goodbye to Mom a long time ago. Anyone who knows someone with dementia will understand those words. I've been saying goodbye to my Friend for years and now has come the time to say goodbye to the sweetest Buddy I will ever have the honor of knowing and loving. Goodbye sweet girl, full of Grace.
