DR. LEWIN A. WHEAT

Memorial Service for Dr. Lewin A. Wheat, 85, of Ormond Beach, who passed away March 25, 2011 will be held April 9th at 4:00 pm at Christ Presbyterian Church. Dr. Wheat was born in Chestertown, Maryland on July 31, 1925 to Albert L. and Elizabeth Wheat. He graduated from Chestertown High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Washington College in 1946, his Masters of Education from University of Maryland in 1954 and his Doctor of Education from the University of Maryland in 1970. Dr. Wheat moved to Ormond Beach on August 1, 1980 from Columbia, MD after his retirement as Area Assistant Superintendent from Prince George's County, MD public schools, and 32 years in public education in Maryland. Prior to this, he served with the Maryland State Department of Education as State Science Supervisor and administrator of the National Defense Education Act. Prior to the State Department position, he taught senior high school science for twelve years and was vice principal at Chestertown High School. Dr. Wheat was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach, where he served as an Elder and Clerk of the Sessions. He was a member of the Daytona Beach Shores Camera Club, the Casements Camera Club and the Halifax Genealogical Society. He enjoyed his church family and friends, photography and oil painting. His nephew, Albert Lieupo, of Virginia Beach, VA and three nieces, Beth Cooper of San Diego, CA, Linda Duffley of Livermore, CA and Amy Fichett of Mesa, AZ survives Dr. Wheat. He will be greatly missed by his special friends, Del and Eleanor Leonard of Ormond Beach, Larry Lyons, of Chestertown, MD and Joan Weatherholtz of Morefield, WV. His wife Catherine and his sister, Elizabeth Ann Lieupo predeceased Dr. Wheat. Graveside services will be at the Chester Cemetery on April 13th at 10:00 am in Chestertown, MD.
