Mary Foster Obituary

Mary R. Foster
07/20/1934 - 11/23/2018
A funeral service for Mary R. Foster, 84, of Ormond Beach, FL, will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174, on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:00am with Pastor Chris officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32117. Mrs. Foster was born on July 20, 1934 to Thomas F. Russell and Ethel Davis Gamble Russell Benton in Valhermoso Springs, Alabama. Educated at Judson College and the University of Alabama, she adored the Crimson Tide football team, yelling, "Roll Tide" any time she got the chance to do it. Mrs. Foster was a member of Oceanside Country Club where she was an avid golfer and tennis player. She loved nature, animals, and children. An extrovert to the end, Mrs. Foster loved spending time with her friends and family, as well as making friends with the strangers around her. She had a sense of humor that permeated all aspects of her time on this earth, and a spirit that was stronger than any adversity that life ever brought to her. Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Foster Beidler of Ormond Beach, FL and Karen Foster Jewell (Sumant Maloo) of Ormond Beach, FL, her grandchildren Erica Foster Jarrell, Timothy Beidler, Steven Beidler, Christian Beidler, and Ryan Jewell (Kris Crimm), her brother William Russell of Huntsville, AL, her special friend Herb Wilkinson, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Foster is proceeded in death by her husbands Capt. Dudley J. Connolly, Jr., and LeRoy E. Foster, and her sons Bryan N. Foster and William F. Foster. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making donations to the Halifax Humane Society, 2364 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124. Dear, Karen and Cheryl and the entire family, I am deeply saddened by your loss. My memories of mom are filled with laughter and fun. We were great tennis rivals but more than that I recall many good times. Here are a few fond memories when we traveled or just hung out together. We flew to Germany on both business and pleasure however when we arrived mom's luggage had not. Luckily for mom mine did. Instead of being upset, we acted like teenagers sharing my clothes for about 4 days. Mom always took things as they came with a positive attitude. Another adventure with mom was going to the Daytona 500. Mom suggested that we go into the infield. As we carefully descended the race track's track, we accidentally met this rather attractive guy "as i called it in a racing costume" and chatted asking various questions about why he was heading towards the pits and other questions about the race itself. He smiled and said "He had no idea to any of our questions" and strolled off. Later, we discovered it was one of the Walthrup boys(Darrel). When we ran into him a while later in the pits, he pointed at us and laughed as he wiggled into his race car and sped off. Mom and I stared at each other thinking we were obviously not up on the drivers but thought it was funny and promised to study the names and faces for future Daytona 500's. Our times together were always upbeat and happy. She was a role model for me as a corporate wife who was always proper but also real. No airs about her...just sincere honesty. I have thought about her ever since I moved away and we spoke briefly over the past few years. She will be missed by so many but always in our hearts. I personally will smile when I think about all our adventures together and the friendship we shared. With my deepest condolences, sympathy and love. Ruth Kling (Lew's ex-wife)
