Michael McCarthy Obituary

Michael W. McCarthy

Michael W. McCarthy played the game of life well past the 9th inning to secure his place on the Lord's All-Star team. Mike left his earthly home and danced into the eternal arms of Jesus on Feb 17, 2021. Mike's passion for life and people assured his place in Heaven's Hall of Fame. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 31 years - Lynn, and their children Kevin, his wife Randi, Brendan, his wife Callie, Julie, and Michael. He was preceded by his first wife Patricia; siblings Dennis, Cheryl, and Patrick; mother and father Mack and Arabelle. Matthew, Bennett, Scarlett, Zoey, Buddy and Sophiea will miss their G-Dad and his joy for life and them. Maizey Day, his four-legged companion misses him as well.

Mike was born in Harford City, Indiana July 30, 1949 and became a Floridian at 4 years of age. He graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1967 where he was a state champion runner on the Sandcrabs track team. He went on to college in Tallahassee and became a die-hard Florida State Seminole fan. Mike then worked with his father at Overhead Door and later became an entrepreneur with his company Alpha Garage Door. Mike was well known as the ambassador of his family-owned health club, 4Ever Fitness.

Mike spent the better part of his life as a devoted Christian. He was a member of Bible Study Fellowship for over twenty years and led many bible studies. He was an ordained pastor and elder at his home church, United Brethren In Christ (UBIC). He was simply magnetic to the church's youth who were blessed by his encouragement and laughter. Mike McCarthy mentored countless youths via local Christian outreach programs: New Start, Beach House and RAP. Mike also spent his time serving others in need at The Jesus Clinic, a non-profit volunteer-based facility which provides basic medical care.

In honor of his passing, his family has established the Mike McCarthy Scholarship Fund through UBIC Academy located at 560 Flomich St. in Holly Hill 32117. The fund will assist local youth with continued education. His family has requested any donations to be provided to the fund or any other outreach he has served. Mike's life purpose was helping children smile and feel loved while guiding others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Mike's memorial service will be held at Jackie Robinson Ballpark at City Island Located at 105 E. Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach 32114 on March 20, 2021. Visit and enjoy ballpark fare with friends and family at 5:30PM and Memorial Service at 7:05PM.

Mike's outgoing personality made him a welcome sight.
Whenever our families dined together I was always glad to hear Mike say a 'Blessing'. This expression of thanks for the simple things of life and the people who made them possible was inspiring.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Lynn and the entire McCarthy family! I first met Mike at Ortona school playground when we were in the 5th grade and we both graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1967. Mike had an outgoing personality and a crazy laugh! Apparently, his church work helped a lot of people and that’s a very admirable mission that he followed even when he had physical problems himself!
