Robert Arcuri Obituary

Robert A. "Bob" Arcuri lost his battle with cancer on March 8, 2018 at Halifax Health Hospice Center in Ormond Beach surrounded by friends and loved ones. Bob came to Florida in 1961 with his mother, Frances Arcuri who preceded him in death in 2004. Bob attended St. Paul Catholic School and Father Lopez Catholic High School. He went on to receive his BA in Communication and US History in 1972, from Fl. Atlantic University, and his MA in Classical Rhetoric in 1974 from the University of Georgia. He later returned to Father Lopez and served as a Social Studies teacher and Drama director for 21 very rewarding years. In 2001 he moved to Daytona State College where he taught speech and drama for 13 years. For over 20 years, Bob was very active in community theatre where he performed, produced and directed at various venues. It was at the Daytona Playhouse where he made some of his dearest friends. Bob is survived by his niece Angie Belin, and his great niece Kathryn Bornhoft, both of E. Landing, MI. He is looking forward to being reunited with his loving mother, his beloved father, John Arcuri and his favorite brother, Richard Arcuri, and all who left this mortal coil before his time. The mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, Fl. on Monday, March 19th at 10am, with interment to follow at Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach, Fl. In lieu of flowers, Bob has requested that all gifts go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Bob Arcuri helped me cross my last mile into adult self expression, I was by far a late bloomer in my mid 30's at the time I took my first class with him. I'd had minimal theater experience as a adolescent, but he tapped into it and brought me out of my shell. He just wouldn't let you retreat. I think of him especially when I have to do something difficult, and most of all, public. I know it's been a ridiculously long time since he passed. It's just taken me this long to find the words. You're the best, and remembering you and all you taught us, always brings me courage to face the unknown.

You remain a REAL one.

Hi All. All too often we use Facebook to gripe about stuff. But this is the Christmas season; so I suggest that all of you that want to, post one of your fondest Christmas memories. Mine was Christmas of 1959. That was the last Christmas that my dad was with us at home. Christmas was his absolute favorite holiday. He would work overtime to be able to afford Christmas presents for my mom, brother and myself. He died December 26,1960. I honor his memory by enthusiastically embracing the spirit of Christmas. Rest in peace John Baptist Arcuri, most fondly called Dad!

This was written by my friend, Bob Arcuri, about his Dad on 12/11/16.
He loved and missed his Dad dearly and I saw him weep for his Dad many times in the 44 years I knew Bob.
Today Bob is finally embracing his Dad again in Heaven on this Father's Day.

I just happened to stumble upon Bob's facebook tonight, to realize he passed away. I'm so saddened I missed his service. I met Bob while attending his speech class at DSC and I remember greatly enjoying this class and my conversations with Bob. One of our speech projects was to give the eulogy for our own funeral, and sadly his would be just a few years later. He was so young at heart and fun to be around. He will be missed by many.

My original Knucklehead. How special you are to me. I will be forever thankful to call you my Brother. Crazy times on stage... who the heck but you woulda picked Arturo Whats-his-name??Thank you for respecting me as an Actress. Nunsense and Romeo and Juliet and just sittin' around havin' a few yucks. You have always been extremely polite and exceedingly respectful to me. We could laugh about ANYTHING!! (remember the ketchup joke??)Your love of my mom's peanut butter pie and my dad's fried chicken make these memories so incredibly fun... this picture of you makes my eyes tear up. You Tom-Cat, you!!! I'll see ya 'round when it's my turn. I love you and I'm so so so glad I could hold your hand and kiss your cheek before you left.
"Night and Day.... you are the one... Only you beneath the moon and under the sun..."

Teacher, Entertainer and Friend...Bob has been a part of my life for many years in these roles and I am saddened to learn that I can no longer look forward (at least, here on earth) to that chance encounter when all time (over 40 years) apart would disappear in a single bear hug! I remember closing down the Carter for President HQ with you to watch the final (seemingly hopeless) returns with the Young Republicans (and then taking them to Lester's Diner for a celebratory bowl of grits after we found out that Carter had actually won) Thank you for the lessons in Speech and Protest; for years of entertainment...Godspell and so many others; and though our lives and politics went separate ways several times, thank you for your friendship. I will truly miss you.

On Thursday, March 8, 2018 at about 10:00 PM one of my best and dearest friends, Bob Arcuri, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a brave and valiant two year battle
against esophageal cancer.
Bob was 68.
We had been friends for 44 years since 1974 and was one of my first friends I made after moving to Central Florida from New York City in late 1973.
We shared a love for the theater and
met at an 1974 audition for Beginner's Luck at the 1974.
We talked for hours about theater, movies, politics ( where we sometimes
disagreed), television shows, religion and all the issues of the day.
We could talk intensely for hours and hours about Tony Soprano and Michael Corleone and the lives they led.
We did countless plays together as fellow actors or Bob directing me and had endless and rewarding fun expressing ourselves creatively in this manner.
We were both enthusiastic sports fan but incredibly, even though he was from
Da Bronx, he was a life long Boston Red Sox fan!!!!!
Still it's even difficult for me to even
talk about this. I have been a die hard New York Yankee fan and we often argued the merits of our favorite teams.
We loved each other's Mothers and they both loved us.
Bob was a devoted and inspirational teacher to thousands of students over the years at the High School and College level and they were a large part of the 20 thousand or so FaceBook friends that stayed in touch with him over the years.
He was a bright, extremely funny and
lived his life intensely and to the fullest at all times. He never held back.
He was my friend and one of the
good guys.
Bless you my friend!
We will meet again!
