ROBERT JAMES WESTENBERG

Robert James Westenberg, 89, of Palm Coast, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at Florida Hospital Flagler. Mr. Westenberg was born July 4, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MI., a son of the late James and Winnifred Buikema Westenberg. He graduated from South High School in Grand Rapids, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force serving as a Navigator and a Flight Engineer. Following his return home, he graduated from the General Motors Institute, now Kettering University. Mr. Westenberg worked as an Automotive Engineer for the Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed making furniture, and spending time with his family. Mr. Westenberg is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Helen Kowaleski, whom he married November 27, 1943; two daughters, Deb Westenberg of Redford, MI., and Wendy (Pete) Richardson, of Mt. Prospect, Ill; one son, Rick (Kim) Westenberg of Clarkston, MI; one sister, Norma (John) Wessels of Hudsonville, MI; three grandchildren, Julia Westenberg, Nowell Westenberg and Elsbeth Richardson.
