Sandra Kress

Former resident of New Smyrna Beach, Sandra Kress passed away on June 20, 2021. She had been a resident at the Palms assisted living facility in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for the past three years.

Sandy was preceded in death by her mother Mary Kress, father William Matelan, and sister Mary Jo. She is survived by her sister Toni (Andy) Crawford, nieces Cathy McCrimon and Tricia (Jim) Cannan, as well as grandnephew and grandnieces Zac McCrimon, Allie Cannan, Meg Cannan, Niki McCrimon, and Chloe Cannan. She is also survived by her half-brothers Bill (Paul) Matelan, Rick (Judi) Matelan, Martin Matelan and their families.

Sandy was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and grew up in New Smyrna Beach. She graduated from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, FL and then attended Gallaudet College in Washington D.C. She then went on to work in food and nutrition at Bert Fish Hospital in New Smyrna Beach for 36 years, later retiring in 2000.

Throughout her life, Sandy loved traveling, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, and watching sports. She especially loved cheering on the Florida Gators in football. Sandy had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and always left everyone around her laughing. She will be dearly missed by her family, Ellen and Bruce Mann, and many friends.

A memorial will be held at the Edgewater Cemetery in New Smyrna Beach on July 30, 2021 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Center in Sandy's name.
