Clovis Alexander Obituary

Clovis Dale Alexander, 87, passed away peacefully, approximately at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, March 4, 2007, in St. John's Regional Health Center, following a short illness. Mr. Alexander was born in Springfield, Mo., on December 7, 1919. He served his country during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He subsequently returned to Springfield, where he served as a surgical nurse in the O'Reilly Military Hospital. He later moved to Tennessee, where he pursued a career in auto mechanics, and raised his family. He also served his community of Sharon, Tenn., as Fire Chief. After Clovis retired, he once again returned home to Springfield, Mo., where he resided for approximately 20 years, and regularly attended Webster Park Baptist Church. His favorite pastimes were fishing and attending various weekly auctions in the Southwest Missouri area. Clovis was also a gifted carpenter. Clovis was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Hildred and Harve Alexander; his wife, Helen Louise Alexander; an infant brother, Loy Alexander; two sons, infant Gary Dale, and Douglas Eugene Alexander. He is survived by Mrs. Betty Jean Hardin, companion for many years; daughter Judy, and husband, James Freeman, of Martin, Tenn.; sons Tim Alexander, of Martin, Tenn., and James Alexander, of Jackson, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Sandy Collis, Mary Baker, Sharon Waterfield, David Freeman, and Scott Alexander; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins; his extended family, Lisa and Mike Marlin and Charles and Kathy Hardin, all of Springfield, Mo.; and Linda and Randy Sanders, of St. Charles Mo.. He will also be fondly remembered by a host of friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 7, at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home, North, Springfield, Mo., with burial to follow. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, at 12 noon, until the service time.
