Delbert L. Snodgrass, 80, of Lockwood, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Lockwood Christian Church. Reverend Ron Lake of Lockwood Christian Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the Lockwood Christian Church. Following the service, Del's remains will be cremated with inurnment to follow at a later date in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 5201 South Southwood in Springfield, Mo. Services are under the care of Lockwood Funeral Chapel.

Delbert was born in Buffalo, Missouri on August 29, 1932. He graduated from Elkland High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Missouri.

For over 36 years, Delbert worked as an Insurance Agent for Shelter Insurance. He invested much of his free time in scouting and community service. He was active in the Lockwood Christian Church for many years, and was a dedicated member of the Lockwood Lions Club. As a former Captain in the United States Air Force, serving as a navigator on the F89, Del naturally gravitated to the American Legion. He held various leadership positions, both at his local Post 372 and at the state level, eventually becoming Missouri State Commander. For 13 years, Del set aside a week of his summer to help host Missouri Boys State. He believed that instilling a sense of duty and patriotism in future generations would create a better America for all.

Delbert married Joanne (Starr) on December 25, 1955. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Joanne Snodgrass of 57 years; five children: Marshall Snodgrass and wife Kristin, Craig Snodgrass and wife Rebecca, Patti McDonough and husband Doug, Joe Snodgrass and wife Teryl, and Ross Snodgrass and wife Susie; his twelve grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his sister, Rosemary Sandwell and husband Bob; his step-brother, Gene Janke and wife Ila; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Beulah Snodgrass; his baby sister, Mildred; and his step-mother, Katherine Snodgrass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 372 in Lockwood, Missouri, Lockwood Christian Church, or Missouri Boys State.
