Dora Blunt Obituary

Dora Hyde Blunt

Dora Margaret (Blankenship) Hyde Blunt was born September 19, 1933, to Hugh Fredric and Vera Owen Blankenship in southern Taney County, the youngest child and only sister to seven brothers. Her father, his twin brother Ed, and the Blankenship family moved from Preachersville in Lincoln County, Kentucky to property between Protem and Ocie, Mo., in the early 1890s. She departed this life on August 15, 2017, at her home with her family at her side.

She grew up in the hills of Taney County, riding and showing Foxtrotting horses. After graduating from Forsyth High School she moved to Springfield to attend radiology school. In 1955, she married Thomas E. Hyde and moved to Marshfield where she worked at Show Me Power Corporation until starting a family. She and Tom became parents of three sons, Thomas Keith, Kent Owen, and Justin Knial. In 1974, Tom died in a farm accident, and she returned to working outside the farm. For the next twenty-one years she worked at Ozark Production Credit, the Marshfield Clinic, and on the family farm. When Drs. Tommy MacDonnell and the late Roger Bareis sold the Marshfield Clinic, she continued working for Cox Health. She saw all three of her boys through college and one through law school.

In 1995, she married Leroy Blunt. They spent their time traveling, gardening, enjoying their large family, and hosting friends and relatives who gathered at her home for the 4th of July and Thanksgiving. Leroy and Dora had 21 wonderful years together until his death in 2016.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshfield from 1955 until her passing, and taught Sunday school for over 20 years, teaching girls through high school, and remained close and dear friends with them through the years.

She baked her own bread and gave away a loaf a week for many years. Her joys were her sons, their wives and her wonderful grandchildren. She made friends easily, and never forgot a friendship once forged. She enjoyed good music, good food, and a good Foxtrotting horse.

Preceding her in death were her husbands Thomas Hyde and Leroy Blunt, her parents, her brothers George, John, Paul, James, Simon, Milo, and Rome, and a much loved nephew H.F. Blankenship.

Survivors include sons, Keith Hyde, Marshfield; Kent Hyde and his wife Janice, Springfield; Justin Hyde and his wife Alexandra, Silver Spring, Md.; Leroy's sons Roy Blunt and wife Abby, Washington, D.C.; Ron Blunt and wife Dorothy, Los Angeles, Calif., and their families. Her grandchildren Jack Hyde and wife Abby, Kansas City; Hillary Hyde, Kansas City; Thomas Hyde and wife Maria, Tulsa, Okla.; Dr. Kassie Hyde and her husband Dr. Craig Bollig, Columbia; Kelsey Hyde, San Diego, Calif.; Joshua Hyde, Kansas City, and Carter Hyde and Amelia Hyde, Silver Spring, Md. Her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends helped make her life wonderful and blessed.

Special thanks to the staff and service of Hospice Compassus.

Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery, east of Niangua, Mo.,where many generations of the Hyde family are buried. Memorial contributions may be made to Prospect Cemetery, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or the American Cancer Society, all in care of the funeral home. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Marshfield. Arrangements made by Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield.

I am sad to read of Dora's passing. She was such a classy lady. I used to visit with her at Dr. Tommy's office and ran into her at a crafts store a few years ago. She was a beautiful woman in all ways.

We loved Dora and enjoyed fun times. We ran into her one night in Springfield and she was totally exhausted as well as totally frustrated. She and LeRoy were going to a special event in Washington involving Roy. She HAD to have a pair of red heels and hours of searching proved unsuccessful. In talking I inquired her size. They went on home. . As we were finishing our shopping, I saw a pair of red heels that sounded like what she was looking for and lol and behold, they were Dora's size. We purchased and dropped them by their home, Where they were preparing to retire for The evening. Dora loved the heels and tried them on and they fit perfect. She was thrilled to pieces and the morning we were recipients of her wonderful bread. Without a doubt she was, as always, dressed to the nines for Roys event in DC.
We extend our deep sympathy and regrets we are unable to be there to respect and honor Dora and her special family.
