Fred Bookout Obituary

Fred Bookout

Fred M. Bookout, age 86, Springfield, passed peacefully to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born September 6, 1926, in Taney County, MO, to Clem and Virgie (Chase) Bookout, both of whom preceded him in death as did his sister, Jane Bookout; brother, Bud Bookout; and daughter, Doris (Bookout) Dalla Rosa.

Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On September 26, 1948, Fred married the love of his life, Frances O'Brien.

In 1957 he began working for Springfield City Utilities in power production, first at the Main Street Power Plant, then the James River Power Plant, and after almost 31 years, he retired as a supervisor from the Southwest Power Plant.

He enjoyed spending time on his farm in Taney County, which has been in his family for several generations. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Sharon Highfill, Ash Grove; son, Rick and his wife Anita, Republic; son-in-law, Arthur Dalla Rosa, Billings; sister, Lucille Gantham, Walnut Grove; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 18, 2013, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will from 2-4 PM on Sunday, March 17, in Walnut Lawn Funeral Home.
