Joel Chandler Kiger

Springfield - Joel "Joey" Kiger passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Joey was born on November 2, 1959 in Alvord, IA, the fourth son of Paul and Shirley Kiger. Joey grew up in Adrian, MO, graduating from Adrian High School in 1978. He earned a BS in Biology from Southwest Missouri State University. Joey was a talented athlete and musician, playing keyboards in The Kidd band through much of the 1980's. Joey was also very involved in Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout award and going on to be a Scout leader for his son Nic's troop.

For the past 21 years, Joey worked for 3M in Springfield, MO, taking on many extra duties, including trainer, inventory control, the company newsletter and United Way Team Leader. Joey was recognized as the 2016 Volunteer of the Year by United Way.

Joey was a very outgoing person, befriending most everyone he met. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Joey loved spending time hiking, camping and floating with family and friends.

Joey was the loving father of three children: Kadie, Nicolas and Sydney, all whom survive him. Joey is also survived by five siblings: Jim, Clay, Jeff, Jerry and Janet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Shirley Kiger.

A memorial service honoring Joey will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO on Saturday, August 11th at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to United Way of the Ozarks 320 N.
