Today we had the funeral for my Mamaw, Betty Nelson. This is, of course, a time when all my condolences go out to all of my family. While she was born and raised in Tennessee, she made the move to Fort Myers, Florida, in 1974. She spent the remaining 47 years of her life surrounded by her family and a lot of cherished memories. I will always remember her as being a loving, and doting Mamaw who would always made sure that her grandchildren had a great time when we went to visit. I still fondly remember going down and spending time with her during my high school years during family vacation time. Staying on the beach, watching movies, having good food, laughing, great conversations. Every time you stood up she would be asking if you wanted or needed anything. As we have all gotten older, it was her wish that she would stay in her house and finally be able to be with her husband, Joe Harvey. I remember trying to talk her into coming back to Tennessee, but she was exactly where she wanted to be. She wanted to be in Florida with Papaw. We've all gotten older and as time went by, the family faces have all disappeared one by one, and my Mamaw was the last one left. I believe she lived a great, cherished life, surrounded by many a family over time. I will always smile and look fondly back at my memories of childhood that she has given me, as Fort Myers was like a 2nd home to the family. I love you Mamaw and I am glad that you are finally back with Papaw. We love you and will miss you, but we look forward to seeing you again one day.
