Obituary

Henry A. 'Hank' Gowing, 82, died Friday, July 23, 2004. He was born in Boston, MA, the son of Henry & Muriel (Livermore) Gowing.

He lived in Belmont, NH before moving to Florida 35 years ago and spent summers in NH and winters in Florida for the past 17 years.

He attended schools in Newton, MA and graduated from Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA in 1939. He graduated from Kimball Union in Meriden in 1942 and the United Sates Coast Guard School. Gowing served in the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines.

He worked as an engineer for WLNH in Laconia, NH, WBBH-TV and WINK TV several years ago. He was a member of ARRL and was a ham radio operator, using the call sign W1OLF since 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Timmons) Collins-Gowing of Loudon; three sons, Henry Gowing, Peter Gowing and Rick Gowing all of Cape Coral, FL; two daughters, Susan Gowing of Cape Coral, FL and Carol Gowing of Seffner, FL; a stepson, Shawn Collins of Concord; a stepdaughter, Terry Collins of Belmont; two brothers, Homer Gowing of Mattapoisett, MA and John Seward of Beverly Farms, MA; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His first wife, Marjorie (Theberge) Gowing, died in 1983; and a grandson died in 1996.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. He was very much loved, and will be greatly missed.
