Lawrence W. Sweeney 72, of Ft. Myers, FL died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Hope Hospice HealthPark after a brief illness. He was born April 17, 1943 in Waterbury, CT a son of the late Lawrence W. and Mary C. (née Conway) Sweeney. A former lifelong resident of Waterbury, he had been a resident of Ft. Myers since 1992.
In 1971, he began his career with the Waterbury Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic and retired from the department in September of 1992. In 2000, he was elected to the San Carlos Fire Protection and Rescue Service District Board of Commissioners. He has held that seat for the past 16 years and currently was the Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Tammy L. Hynes and her husband, Matt of Cape Coral, FL; 5 grandchildren, Scott A. LoVecchio, Ryan A. LoVecchio, Marisa (Micah) Mungillo, Larry E. Sweeney and Jaxon Hynes; and 4 great grandchildren, Avery LoVecchio, Branson Groel, Weston Mungillo and Alexis Mungillo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean W. Sweeney in 2008 and his son, Lawrence M. Sweeney in 2012.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 1:30 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home 28300 So. Tamiami Tr., Bonita Springs, FL. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM. Additional services and inurnment will follow at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to Hope Hospice 9470 HealthPark Cr., Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
