Robert G. Bryan, 96, of Ft. Myers, Florida and formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Bayfront hospital, Punta Gorda, after a brief illness, just shy of his 97th birthday.

Robert was born on March 25, 1919, in Bainbridge, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his daughter Ruth Bryan and is survived by his loving wife of nearly 72 years, Ines C. Bryan; daughters Maria Bryan, Jane Bryan Schroeder (Carl); son John Bryan (Flora); grandchildren Karen Ferriman, Krista Fox, Keith Clark, Nancy Owens, Melanie Moon, Valerie Sharon and Bryan DiMatteo; and eleven great grandchildren.

Robert retired in 1974 after a career in civil service which included employment in the Panama Canal Zone in positions servicing the Panama Canal and later, in Dayton, Ohio, as a flight line mechanic and Precision Measuring Equipment Technician at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

He was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church and then North Riverdale Lutheran Church, Dayton, OH; and later, Messiah Lutheran Church, Cape Coral, FL.

Although he suffered later in life from partial vision loss due to macular degeneration, he never stopped seeing the need to support those less fortunate than him and gave generously to numerous charities, including Hospice of Dayton, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer for the Cure, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and continually took delight and pride in the accomplishments of his family members, who will all miss him greatly.

He and his wife Cecilia taught us all the meaning of love and devotion.

A memorial service in his honor is being planned for Friday, March 25, 2016 at 2:00p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2691 NE Pine Island Rd., Cape Coral, FL.
