Thomas Roberts Obituary


Obituary

Thomas H. Roberts, 55, of Fort Myers, died Friday, January 7, 2000, having lived in this area with his wife, Marium, and sons, Evan and Lawton, for the past 18 years. Mr. Roberts served as an officer in the U.S. Army with the Corps of Engineers and attained the rank of captain. He served in Germany and later saw combat duty in the Republic of Vietnam from 1969-1970, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Within the community, Tom was a member of the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church, serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees, as a Sunday School teacher, and as a lay speaker. He was an avid and accomplished athlete and sports enthusiast who loved sports, whether viewing, participating or using his leadership and athletic ability to coach area youths in the Youth Basketball Association (YBA) and YMCA programs.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marium V. Roberts; and his two sons, Evan Roberts and Lawton Roberts, all of Fort Myers; his parents, Charles and Dorothy Roberts of Salem, Ohio; his sister, Harriet Roberts of Daytona Beach, FL; and his brother, Jeffrey (and wife Judy) Roberts of Salem, Ohio, and their children, Heather King, Melissa Elias, Stephanie Petrucci, and Rob Roberts.

Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church, followed by an American Legion service conducted by American Legion Post #38. Visitation will be TODAY (Monday) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in memory of Thomas H. Roberts
