Tommie Gibson Obituary

Tommie L. Gibson

January 31, 1954 - June 11, 2017

Tom was born in Campbellsville, KY, moved to the Fort Myers area in 1959 and was a 1972 graduate of Fort Myers High School. He was an outstanding football player (#44) of the Greenies and still holds the shot put record at FMHS since 1971. His senior year he was the AAAA State Champion and the AAU State Champion for the shot put which qualified him to compete at the AAU Nationals in Colorado Springs, CO where he placed 5th in the nation. He spent a short time in college at Western Kentucky University. He married and moved his family to Illinois in 1976 and started his lifetime career as an over the road trucker. He retired from trucking and returned to Fort Myers in 2005.

He is loved and cherished by his large family: his five children, Bethany Gibson of Fort Myers, Thomas (Krystal) Gibson of Jacksonville, FL, Adam (Sherri) Gibson of Houston, TX, Jake Gibson of Colorado Springs, CO, Joe (Stella) Gibson of Toluca, IL, stepchildren, Lisa Mackjust of Toluca, IL and Doug Mackjust of Streator, IL, 4 grandchildren, Kryslyn, Braylen, Leah and Jaxon, his father, Romulus "Hoot" Gibson, who passed away in 1991, his mother Martha Gibson of Fort Myers, his siblings, Sue Stone of Fort Myers, Bobby Gibson, who passed away in 2009, John (Wendy) Gibson of Nashville, TN, Martha (Jim) Whitten of North Fort Myers, Mary Sharp of Cape Coral, Jane (Darryl) Lloyd of St. Augustine, FL, Ruth Mahn of Fort Myers and Joe Gibson of Fort Myers, his uncle, Tommie (Verna) Gibson, Jr. of North Fort Myers, 4 nieces, Anna, Caity, Samantha and Natalie, 3 nephews, Matthew, Casey and Raleigh and 1 great niece, Brooklyn.

A private family service was held with Pastor George McCracken officiating. A casual "Celebration of Tom's Life" will be held at the Casa Del Lago Clubhouse, 7551 Sika Deer Way on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 1-4.
