1937 - 2025

WALTER EDWARD YORT Walter Edward Yort passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, in Shawnee, Okla. He was born on May 29, 1937, in Creighton, Mo., to Harvey H and L.C Marie Yort. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1955 and served in the U.S Army for two years. In 1963, he married the loved of his life, Sherrill Gay. They spent over 61 years together. They welcomed two sons, Michael in 1965 and Kevin in 1967. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for over 50 years and was currently a member of Temple Baptist Church. Walter worked at Tinker Air Force Base for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Marie Yort, his siblings, Marcine Storie, Betty Storie, Don Yort, Shirley Monroe, Bobby Yort, and Danny Yort. He is survived by his wife, Sherrill, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Randi Yort; son, Kevin Yort, as well as his granddaughter, grandson and two great-granddaughters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 1234 E Highland St, Shawnee, OK 74801.
