Becky Jo Moore (nee Sturgeon) died peacefully at home on March 21, 2024 following a two-year long battle with melanoma.
Becky was born on April 10, 1949 in Evanston, Illinois, to Purser Kent and Susan Crim Sturgeon. Following graduation from Evanston Township High School in 1967, Moore attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.
She later attended Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. She was a member of Rush-Presbyterian-Saint Luke's Medical Center Local Honor Society.
She ultimately became a Certified Registered Nurse, devoting most of her career to working as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse at Albany Medical Center in New York until she retired in January of 2010. Becky and Hugh met while they were both students at Monmouth College. After graduating, although she had never been on a motorcycle before, she unhesitatingly agreed to join Hugh on a six-week ten-thousand-mile motorcycle journey. This 'honeymoon' was so inspiring, they decided to get married the following year. On October 21, 2023, they celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Becky loved to create music. She played oboe in school orchestras and learned to play the bagpipes while in college. She also learned to play an organ her husband had bought for her. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of the Knoxville Choral Society and sang in her church choir. She was president of the Hand Bell Chior at The Community Church in Tellico Village. She also loved to dance. She and Hugh were skilled square dancers and were regulars with the Little T Squares in Lenoir City. She was an accomplished cross-stitch artist, creating numerous framed works that adorn the walls of her home. Her most recent cross-stitch piece was a quilt square which she incorporated into a quilt she made using squares made by her maternal grandmother.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings Nancy Beth Sturgeon Dynneson and Kent Douglas Sturgeon, and brothers-in-law Joseph Walton and Billy Valencia.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Hugh Kelsea Moore IV, of Tellico Village, TN; daughter Kathleen Dawn (Sandra) Quigley of Schenectady, NY; son Hugh Kelsea (Brianna) Moore V, of Attleboro, MA; granddaughter Katherine Elizabeth "Katie-Beth" Quigley of Schenectady, NY; siblings Paula Sue Walton of St. Peters, MO; Kathryn Valencia of Ignacio, CO; Barbara Jean (Joseph) Hoban of Midwest City, OK; Lorelei (John) Cauffman of Osceola, IA; Richard (Jennifer) Gibson of Lake Quivira, KS; and sister-in-law Barbara Urbanik Sturgeon of Gardendale, TX; many nieces and nephews, and extended family.
A service will be held at The Community Church in Tellico Village on April 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM. The service will be live-streamed. Access to the link is www.tellicochurch.com. Scroll down to Worship With Us Online/Watch Live.

So sorry to hear of Becky´s passing. I worked with her for years at AMCH NICU. She surely loved reading her books. May she rest in peace. Condolences to her family.
