William Whitmore "Bill" Kauffman

1932 - 2023

William "Bill" Whitmore Kauffman, 90, formerly of Lynchburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Charlottesville. Bill was born on July 31, 1932, in Page County, Virginia, to Paul Edwin Kauffman and Elsie Katherine (Whitmore) Kauffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Kay (Kauffman) Watson and her husband, Steve. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Annie Dewitt "Dee" (Harvey) Kauffman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill's career began in the 1950s as a State Police officer in Nelson County. He recounted with pride his service in law enforcement. He later served as Director of Transportation for the Nelson County School System. After becoming a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, he was employed by the Church and Liberty University in various capacities. Bill and Dee relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia in the 1980s and resided there until recently.

Bill graduated from North River High School in Augusta County and continued his education at Madison College. He devoted his life to the study of the gospel and was an avid reader. His knowledge of classic cars was tremendous, especially Chrysler products. He treasured his collections of model cars and automobile literature.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2023, at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Davis Creek Lane, Lovingston, Va., with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
