Alfred Harwood Traylor

Alfred Harwood Traylor, 95, of Roanoke, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Denson Traylor, of Roanoke.

He is survived by a half-brother and his wife, Winston and Annette Traylor, of Asheville, N.C.; a half-sister, Paula Traylor Grady, of Marietta, Ga.; and his departed wife's nieces, Betty Bradley, of Roanoke, and Kebbie Saunders, of Rocky Mount.

He was born in Lynchburg, attended Lynchburg College and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was employed during World War II by the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, Md., as a service engineer in charge of technical manuals and training for military and commercial aircraft. After a brief enlistment in the USNR, he was called to establish and manage a technical publications department at Goodyear Aerospace Corporation in Akron, Ohio, a subsidiary of the Goodyear Tire Company. After 25 years of service, he retired and moved to Roanoke. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the First Baptist Church. Private burial services were held Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg.

Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
