Barbara Hamilton Obituary
Barbara Lee Jackson Hamilton, 72, of Bedford, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at her residence. Born Feb. 9, 1937, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Estelle Virginia Dickerson Jackson and Richard Edward Jackson Sr.
Barbara was recently baptized in September. She was employed by Bedford County School System as a cafeteria employee at the Bedford Middle School. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, flowers, watching western movies and most of all she loved her family.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Jackson Jr.
She is survived by her eight children, Debbie Bowyer and husband, David, William "Billy" Hamilton and wife, Ann, Tanya Burford, Barbara Goff, Troy Hamilton, George Hamilton and wife, Sharon, Tracy Hamilton and Mimi Smith and husband, John; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Tony, Trevor, Amanda, Justin, Tori, Donald, Danielle, Audrey, Ashley, Tyler and Chelsea; five great-grandchildren, Aaron, Christopher, Noah, Aiden and Ava; one sister, Rose Villarial; and three brothers, Donald Jackson, Russell Jackson and Steve Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, 1220B East Joppa Road, Ste 332, Baltimore, MD 21286.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 19, 2009, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540) 586-3443.
