Ellis Sr.

Benjamin Edwin Ellis Sr., 79, of Lynch Station, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Janice Weeks Ellis.

He was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Chesterfield County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia Hubbard Ellis and Leslie Stephenson Ellis, and one sister, Dorothy E. Dooley. He was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a life member of VFW Post 4165. Mr. Ellis was a retired employee of General Electric, a field judge for the American Kennel Club and a member of the American Saddlebred Association of Virginia.

He is survived by two sons, Bennie Ellis and his wife, Carol, of Roanoke and Jeff Ellis and his wife, Gail, of Altavista; a brother, Leslie S. Ellis and his wife, Pat, of Connecticut; two grandchildren, Adam Ellis and Andrew Ellis; two step-grandchildren, Angie Ellis and Amber Hardman; two great-grandchildren, Annica Hardman and Corey Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Hurt United Methodist Church by the Rev. Warren Stackhouse. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery with military honors presented by VFW Post 4165 and DAV Chapter 46.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Feb. 5, 2009, at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista, and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hurt United Methodist Church, 105 Riverview Road, Hurt, VA 24563.
