Bettie JENNINGS Obituary
Mrs. Bettie Gilbert Jennings, 96, of 998 Wyatt Road, Long Island, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Medical Care Center in Lynchburg. Born Aug. 5, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Lula Gilbert, and the widow of the late Mitchell Jennings. She was the last member of her immediate generation and was preceded in death by a stepson, Alexandria Jennings; four sisters; and two brothers.
Mrs. Jennings was a member of Staunton Baptist Church, Long Island, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Hilda Hunt (Pride) of Nathalie and Bertha Weston (Larry) of Lynchburg; one stepdaughter, Mary Walker of Oakdale, Conn.; one stepdaughter-in-law, Thelma Jennings of Lynchburg; two sons, Lewis Jennings (Addie) and Willie Jennings, all of Long Island; sister-in-law, Lou Ella Jennings of Nathalie; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Staunton Baptist Church by Dr. P.A. Medley, with interment in the church cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the funeral home.
Miller Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
