Beulah Lee Harvey Couch, 81, of Lynchburg, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.

Ms. Couch was born July 24, 1927, in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Travis Baxter Harvey and Beulah Lee Harvey.

She retired from Lynchburg Public Schools, where she worked as a secretary. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, attended Sunday school and worked with the Women's Missionary Union. She was an active volunteer in the community, giving of her time at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

She is survived by her daughters, Marsha C. Carwile and husband, Alan, of Lynchburg and Betsy C. Neal and husband, Thomas, of Columbia, S.C.; her sisters, Lillian Thompson of Rock Hill, S.C., and Betty Jean McCraw of Gladys; and her grandchildren, Meredith Carwile, Morgan Carwile, Rebecca Neal and Frannie Neal.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. James Newman officiating. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at West Lynchburg Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church Endowment Fund or Music Fund, 3031 Memorial Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
