Brian Beagle Obituary

Brian Beagle

August 30, 1952 - May 12, 2025

"They don't make them like him anymore."

Brian Albert Beagle, affectionately known as "BB," of Boston, MA, went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2025, at 2:43 p.m. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Sharon Curran Beagle, and their daughters, Tenneil, Marissa, and Desiray. The room was full of family and friends and his final moments were filled with the same love, faith, and peace that defined his life.

Brian was born to James Marvin Beagle and Carolyn Edith Litchfield-Beagle. Brian proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, where he met the love of his life in 1973, Sharon Lorain. In 1979, he moved to Lynchburg, VA, to attend Liberty Baptist College (now Liberty University) and answered God's call on his life. From that moment on, Brian's days were spent in devoted service to his faith, his family, and his community.

Brian was a man who gave everything and loved deeply. Overflowing with kindness, wisdom, humor, and generosity, he made it his mission to lift others up and look for people he could bless. Whether through his deep love for the Lord, tireless community outreach, or simply making someone laugh on a hard day, Brian left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

He was a fixture in the Lynchburg community, known by many as a "Lynchburg Legend." Through his work with the Disabled American Veterans and the Salvation Army, and his foundational role in establishing the Community Corrections Diversion Program for Lynchburg City, he offered second chances to countless individuals. He believed in grace over judgment and his compassion gave hope to many who had lost their way.

In total, Brian dedicated 50 years to teaching and ministering to children and adults at Thomas Road Baptist Church and other congregations. He was ordained and officiated weddings and funerals. Even after retirement, he continued to share the message of the Gospel with joy and energy. He found delight in life's simplest pleasures, seafood, the ocean, music, dancing, and storytelling, especially when a story grew more animated (and funnier) with each retelling. His sense of humor was infectious, and his personality filled every room he entered.

He was a loving husband, a proud father, a joyful grandfather, a devoted brother, a loving uncle, a faithful Pastor, a trusted counselor, and a loyal friend. He taught us how to live with intention, how to serve with humility, and how to love with our whole hearts, and find the humor in life. The only lesson he never taught us was how to live without him.

Brian is survived by his cherished wife, Sharon Lorain Curran-Beagle; his daughters, Sharon Tenneil Beagle-Staats and her husband, Calvin Jr. and his daughter Kayla, Marissa Beagle-Jayne and her husband, Aaron and Desiray Beagle-Gunter and husband, Bobby and their son, Kroy. His siblings, Wayne Beagle and his wife, Kim, Ronnie Beagle and Cindy, Linda Beagle, Steve Beagle and Joan. His sister-in-law, Theresa Grandstaff and husband, Tim Sr.; brothers-in-law, Raymond Curran and Ted Curran; and special mentions of JD Weaver and Rhonda and Lori Layne. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he adored: Blake, Kyle, Caitlin, Matt, Renee, Hunter, Nicole, Tim Jr., Tadd, Ronnie Jeremy, little Raymond, Caleb ,T, Josh, Rachelle, Lauren, Megan, Kaylee, Lexi, Jaylyn, Zachary and Justin. His brother, James and two nephews, Brett and Brock, unfortunately passed away, but Brian loved them dearly.

Above all, Brian's greatest joy came from being "Grandaddy" to his grandchildren, Kroy Gunter and Kayla Staats, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any ministry that preaches the Gospel, honoring Brian's lifelong commitment to spreading the love of Christ.

His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the stories he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the faith he modeled so well. In the word he so often spoke, now returned to him with full hearts and tearful smiles, in the words of BRIAN, "God bless you."

A celebration of Brian's life will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 1 p.m. in Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. also in Pate Chapel. Military honors will be provided by American Legion=Post 16 Lynchburg.

Dear Sharon and Family, I am so saddened to hear of Brian´s passing. Brian was a special man and I am so thankful for the God-given privilege of knowing him & all of your wonderful family.

I had the great pleasure and blessing of meeting Brian & Sharon in 1985, as an older LU student, while assisting them at Thomas Road Baptist Church in the kindergarten Sunday school class. I loved them both and immediately knew I wanted to know Brian and Sharon better. They were a very special, fun-loving, Godly couple demonstrating christian love and kindness.

When Brian was managing the Salvation Army thrift store & later the DAV thrift store I would occasionally stop by to visit him. Brian truly was an exceptional man of God always greeting me with a bright smile. He´d often teasingly ask if I was there looking for a wedding gown. By the way Brian I´m 76 and no wedding gown! Knowing what a Godly man Brian was, I sometimes had a personal need to share and if he had time Brian was always ready to listen. He amazed me with his God - given ability of insightfulness and being able to zero in on my situation and offer such wonderful advice. I have often shared with my friends how Brian impressed me with such ability. After the DAV closed and I moved to South Carolina I lost touch with Brian. I genuinely miss those visits.

Brian had such a great sense of humor and was a fantastic storyteller. During one visit I mentioned that I was taking a course in Appalachian literature and did he have any good stories to share. Brian told me some of his experiences working with people in the Blue Ridge mountains and the way he presented his stories was hilarious. He was laughing so heartily and I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard. I truly believe Brian could have taken his storytelling on the road!

Dear Brian you will be
missed for so many reasons. Thank you for your life and your Godly demonstration and example of what a Christ filled life should look like. You are dearly loved in the Lord and will greatly be missed.

Dear Sharon, I grieve for you as I know you and Brian loved each other dearly. May you feel the strength and warmth of the Lord God´s arms wrapped around you. So thankful for you and Brian´s commitment to Christ and His promise of eternity. That will be a time for rejoicing.

Special prayers for you Sharon and your family.
With much love, Pat McIntosh.

May The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

I so remember Brian and his wife as they ministered to children in the old Thomas Road Baptist church property. Brian always had a smile and an encouraging word for me. He was a cut up and you couldn´t do anything but laugh as he joked around with the kids and volunteers . Kind of lost track of him over the years but one thing I know he loved God and loved People! I am praying for his family as they go through this difficult time. Joshua 1:8

I'm at Brian when he was running the DAV thrift store at the corner of Greenview and Timberlake. He was a joy to know. I looked forward to those tent sales he had all the time. I was running the sales staff Stonegate. I sent many friends to him at that location and when he moved downtown on main Street. He made shopping for those treasures of his a true delight. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. I was heartbroken when he felt he needed to close his shop but I'm sure he went on to do even greater things. I enjoyed meeting his wife and beautiful daughters in the shop downtown as they ran it as a family. I know your heart is broken I lost my dad recently so hugs and prayers to all of you!

Heaven has received another of its servants home. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. What a life well lived and what rewards received when he heard, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Sharon: My thoughts and prayers are with you and the girls.
