Bruce Wooldridge Obituary

Calvin 'Bruce' Wooldridge, 72, went to his heavenly home August 20, 2025. He had been hospitalized several days in Roanoke with an acute illness. He was a resident at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke for the last several years.

Bruce was born September 26, 1952 in Lynchburg to Caswell Thomas Wooldridge and Georgie Simmons Wooldridge. He was the third born of their six children. He grew up off of Old Forest Road and was a graduate of E.C. Glass. Shortly thereafter he joined the United States Marine Corp. He was really proud of being a Marine.

Some of his work history includes years at May Brothers Construction, as well as years at Sentry. Bruce was a big fan of the Washington Redskins. He became a strong Christian, reading his Bible every day and sharing it with anyone he met. Before being moved from Lynchburg he loved attending Lynchburg Church of God where his Mother attended. They were so very close. He also loved Tree of Life Ministries. Once in Roanoke he accessed a number of churches that connected with the VVCC there, attending off campus when physically able, and also enjoying the many on-site services as well.

Most of his years at the VVCC he loved to walk & exercise, walking several miles every day outside on the nice paths allover the campus there. Bruce cherished the years he was able to spend time with family and talked of the fond memories and long time friendships with his buddies. And he loved his children and grandchildren very much.

He is survived by a daughter Gina Wooldridge (Jamie Allen) of Evington and children Alexis and Shawn; and a son David Wooldridge (Cassidy Tyree) of Gladstone and children Alex and Conner. He is also survived by 4 siblings, Robert Wooldridge of Forest, Kay Taylor (Gary) of Naola, Debbie Thompson (Ben) of Lynchburg, and Ruth Wooldridge of Pisgah, Iowa. His parents and brother Carl predeceased him.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bruce will be held on Saturday September 13, 2025 at 12:00 at Tree of Life Ministries with Pastor Mike Dodson, at 2812 Greenview Dr., Lynchburg. The American Legion post 716 of Lynchburg has offered to provide a Color Guard presentation. What an honor to Bruce. Please mark your calendar to join this gathering to remember and honor Bruce.

Earlier today

I was so shocked to hear Bruce passing. Working at the front desk at the Care Center Bruce would walk by and wait for a co-worker to walk with him, in passing he would either share the good word or share his music. No doubt this sweet gentleman who was a Proud Marine, and loved the Lord where he is at today.
