Carol Shanaberger Blanks

Carol Shanaberger Blanks, 73, of Forest, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Michael D. Blanks for 46 years.

Born May 29, 1952, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she was the oldest daughter of the late Robert Worth Shanaberger and Geneve Dickey Shanaberger. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Bobby) Shanaberger, and a brother-in-law, Robert Hasson.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Charles D. Blanks and his wife, Kelly of Waterford, VA; a daughter, Sydney B. Foley and her husband, Jordan of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, her grandsons, Charles (Charlie) D. Blanks, Jr., John (Jack) A. Blanks, Michael J. Foley, II (MJ), and her granddaughters, Ronnie M. Foley and Leigh M. Blanks.

She is also survived by a brother, Larry R. Shanaberger and his wife, Martha; two sisters, Kathy S. Brightwell and her husband, Bobby, Cheryl Hasson; a brother-in-law, David Blanks and his wife, Angela.

She was a member of Amelon United Methodist Church. Carol was a loyal employee of The Kroger Co. for over 47 years and had made many long-time friends with employees and customers alike. She and Mike had traveled extensively since their retirement, visiting 40 states and over 30 countries. Her quiet and companionable presence will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road. A private family graveside will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
