Edward Chandler Obituary
(Papa; Mr. C)
Edward Orrell Chandler, 65, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, in his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was the loving husband of Maggie Ragans Chandler for 42 years. Born Feb. 8, 1944, in Halifax County, he was the son of the late David Melvin Chandler and Bessie Odell Martin Chandler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalie Marie Chandler.
Ed was a self-employed insurance agent and an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church. During his spare time, Ed enjoyed camping, golfing, gardening, playing with his grandchildren and spending vacation time at Holden Beach, N.C. He volunteered time with several organizations, such as the Brookville Ruritan Club and The Gideons. Working in sales for over 30 years, Ed enjoyed meeting new people and forming relationships that lasted for generations.
In addition to his wife, Maggie, he is survived by three children, Traci Chandler Viar and her husband, Mark Shelton Viar, of Forest, David Thomas Chandler and his wife, Amy Goodloe Chandler, of Mechanicsville and Martin Edward Chandler of Forest; four grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Viar, Samuel Mark Viar, Jacob Edward Chandler and Joshua David Chandler; his sister, Carolyn Chandler Lloyd, and her husband, Archie Lloyd, of Somerset, Ky.; and aunts, nieces and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following faithful workers who stayed by Ed's side during his battle with cancer: special family friends, Barbara Pettus, Deedra Alexander, Valerie Brown, Henry Rucker, Chinika Davis, Kelly Kovlak, Jamie Morgan and Sabrina McDaniel. We, the family, are very appreciative of the guardian angel who helped make it possible for Ed to stay home during his last few weeks with his family and dog, Bob-bee.
A celebration of Ed's life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Dan Manley. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials take the form of contributions to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 4723, Lynchburg, VA 24502; Brookville Ruritan Club, 311 Beverly Hills Circle, Lynchburg, VA 24502; The Mission Friends Program of Lakewood Baptist Church, 2469 Sunburst Road, Evington, VA 24550; Free Clinic of Central VA, 1016 Main St., Lynchburg, VA 24504; or the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Ste. 108, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Dear Maggie & Family,
I was sorry to hear about Ed but I also know you are thankful, as I was, for no more pain and suffering. It's hard to believe Kenneth died a year ago on December 3 but I know heaven is a sweeter place with these two wonderful men. My thoughts and prayers will continue for all of you in the days ahead.

Maggie & Family
I remember you & Ed at my Mom's Memorial Service last March. It meant so much to me.
My brother, Mike, kept me informed & I spoke with Ed a couple times on the phone. He had such a Christian Testimony!!! Praise God!!! He is with his Heavenly Father & no more pain, etc. This is not easy for you as I know.
I wish I could be there for you but will in thoughts & prayers.

Maggie,
I have always considered it a blessing to have moved in beside you guys years ago, and then to fellowship with you at Lakewood. Ed always brought a smile to my face and still does as I think of him.
It's hard to let go, but Ed is truly home now. And to know he is with Natalie, what joy! God will bring comfort to you and much joy through your sadness. This I know. I love you guys.

Mr. Ed as I called him was one of my best friends and will be truly missed. I know that he is in Heaven now and looking down and smiling on us as we continue to miss him. I am so sorry for your loss of Ed. I know these past months have been rough for you all and my thoughts and prayers have been with you daily. My Dad also passed away on December 8th, three years ago. He also was a Gideon so I can imagine him and Ed having conversations in heaven. Troy and I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to each of you. We will always remember Ed ad a very happy, caring person. One who loved the Lord and served him gladly.
My children Bradley and Ashley will always remember him as part of their childhood at Lakewood, working alongside you Maggie, to teach them in Mission Friends and Vacation Bible School.
